UFOdenise's Yarn Unit of Doom
Hello Everyone! I've been lurking around and working on my UFO list. Finally, it's complete. This is quite embarassing. From what I've been reading, we all have a lot in common! Good luck to all of you!
My list is cross-posted on my blog here.
Started 8.2.06
In no certain order, the following are my UFOs.
Picovoli.
Started, just realized today, in January. I realized that because a picture of it is online at a gaming website. Yeah, I game, what of it? This was also a KAL project with my dear buddy Melanie, who completed her Pico and hated it after. It came apart and did bad things. Links later.
Socks for Kid #1. I've been promising my son socks for a very long time. Many socks have been attempted, none of them fit properly. I swatched, I measured, I did everything...they still no fittee. I blame the bad yarn they were knit of.
Socks for me and kid #2. As mentioned in my earlier blog posts, I'm knitting pedicure socks for me n' the girlie. I have one almost done, and have been knitting on it faithfully since I started it.
Wash rag for the kitchen. I swatched it and have been thinking about it non-stop, have yet to knit it.
Dolly for kid#2's bday coming up Sept. 5th. Dolly's peanut shaped body (pic linked in tomorrow) and dress are done. I learned how to embroider for dolly's eyes and how to crochet for her picot edging for her dress...She has a dress, but no arms to hold it up, and not a leg to stand on. *Groan*.
Absorba-Type Bath Mat. The bath mat I was dying to figure out on my own how to make (because I don't own the book) and once I figured it out, haven't touched since. The first square turned out ugly and I frogged it, gave my kid the yarn, and haven't gone any further.
Sock 2 of Madder Rib Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. I knit up sock #1, and believe there is a gauge issue. I either need to reknit the sock in it's appropriate gauge, or rip back part of the cuff, and reknit with larger needles. The cuff is too tight. The rest of the sock fits beautifully.
Head wrap in the bamboo yarn. A really cool use for bamboo yarn Melanie and I bought a very long time ago in Savannah, neither one of us had found something great to do with the yarn yet. It knits up too weird for any kind of garment. Again, once I found out what to do with it, I got bored. The slipping of the elongated stitches wasn't all that fun, either.
Squarey from Unusual Toys to Knit and Enjoy by Jess Hutch. I casted squarey on the same night Mel and I got the bamboo yarn, the booklet above, and the LPW. Haven't touched squarey since the day after I casted him on. I'm not sure why. Probably more stripe agression. I seriously detest knitting stripes. I'm not sure why about that either.Jaywalker socks. I got bored with those too.
8.4.06, I dug through the Yarn Unit of Doom and found 5 more UFO's.
Regia Cotton Surf Socks. Without the loops. I started these a very long time ago, and finished one sock. I was so proud of myself, until I tried the sock on. It was too small, and I had no idea why. I had followed my pattern to the letter, checked my gauge, and still, no fitee. Many months later, I actually measured my foot at some point. My feet are two inches longer than I ever thought that they were! Another problem with these socks, I must have taken them to a gauge that isn't meant for cotton (I was very ignorant about cotton back then) because you can see the holes in my stitches and between the stitches. They need to be frogged and re-knit to a different gauge.
Stephanies Sock Recipe (from Knitting Rules) socks in Lorna's Laces Shepered sock yarn. Again, same problem, they're too short and the cast on edge is too tight for a good fit. They also need to be frogged and reknit with shorter cuffs, as I will not have enough yarn to finish them. I bought this yarn back in October of last year, and then I was still very ignorant that little thing we call yardage.
Sock it To Me socks by Karen Baumer. Brilliant pattern, easy to knit. Problem? Tooo bulky for my tastes, and the socks are too short. I thought I'd be slick and add ribbing on the top of the foot, but it makes the sock too bulky for comfort. These need to be frogged and reknit into something else altogether. I should mention that this pattern was the first pattern I ever used for socks, and I've re-knit it about 5 times.
Crocheted barbie doll dress for my daughter. This dress was made by her Grandma sometime before Christmas. She had come down for a visit and we really had a good time going through all of my yarn, books, and magazines. She had picked up crocheting again after many years of putting it down, and made up this little dress for Abi. All it needs is a snap, and I've completely forgotten about it again and again.
Edited to add one, NOPE, two I forgot:
Ballet Wrap of Doom.
A long time ago, on a Savannah trip, Mel and I debated over buying a big bag of yarn that was 60% off. She did, and gifted the yarn to me. Long story. I was going to do the Ballet Wrap from IWK. Ballet Wrap was evil, and I never finished it because neck shaping is evil. Really, really evil. I swapped the yarn for sock yarn, as I knew the ballet wrap's yarn had another destiny. Like matching OSW's for kid #2 and I. So, I need to figure out how to resize OSW for a little girl. Anyone know how?
Another Sock for Me. The yarn I swapped the ballet wrap yarn for was sock yarn. It was going to be a birthday present for my boyfriend, but I realized that 1) I didn't have enough yarn. 2) If I acquired more yarn, the socks would be $35 socks. He does not feel the same way about socks that knitters do, and has refused such expensive socks. He says I should knit myself the socks. So, that's what I'm gonna do. Just as soon as these 16 UFO's are done.
Sock blankee. This isn't really a UFO, and isn't possible to finish before the end of August, but I figured I'd list it anyway to keep it on my mind. I'm still making squares and putting scraps aside. I'm sure after I finish all these socks, I'll have lots and lots more scraps to knit squares with. I've also been asking my friends to save any scraps they might have left over.
Picovoli. I must knit a garment. Melanie is no longer allowed to kick my butt in the garment FO department. Picovoli is no longer allowed to kick my ass, either.
Socks for kid #1. He'll be heartbroken that kid #2 and I have matching socks and he has none.
Dolly... she's due shortly
Since I wrote this post over 3 days, I'll give you an update.
I have finished 1 sock of the socks for me and kid #2, and frogged picovoli and started over. I didn't want to pick up where I left off, and take the chance of my gauge being drastically different. I also dropped stitches here and there along the increased edges I'm not quite sure how to pick up.
I'm thinking of turning the Lorna's Laces yarn into socks for Kid #1, it's a really cool cammie color, perfect for a little boy.
Good luck everyone!

What's "gaming"?
Gaming is the sport of playing video games and/or PC games competitively or for leisure. There's console gaming (me) and PC gaming (them). Popular games are World of Warcraft, Halo 2, Battlefield 2, Call of Duty 2, Oblivion, Final Fantasy, Everquest 2, etc. My favorite is Halo 2. I'm more into competitve gaming. You can read more about it at MLGpro.com. :D
