Well, I must say that UFO August was a HUGE success!!! Just LOOK at how many UFO's were converted to FO's! Me, well I ran into technical difficulties (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) and only finished one UFO but did work on the others without casting on for anything new until the VERY end when I (sort of had to) cast on for a sock to take with me to a convention. Any way you look at it, as long as we made some progress on some of those pesky UFO's, we're all winners.

Speaking of winners, I need for all who particpated to leave me a comment under THIS post letting me know the totals of how many UFO's you completed during UFO August. I know that many of you already posted this in the blog as a separate post, but if you could re-post it as a comment under this post, it will be much easier for me to get everybody's names entered into the drawing. We'll give everybody a week to post their numbers and then draw two names to give away two prizes. The first prize will be a skein of Sweet Feet sock yarn donated by Hill Country Yarns and the second prize will be Ashley Paige's book, Sexy Little Knits.

We will definitely have another UFO August next year and maybe even try a UFO March so that we can finish up our winter UFO's before plunging into our spring knitting. Finished the blanket

I finished the blanket last week, sorry I forgot to post earlier. But you know how life can get in the way some times. So I was only a few days past the end of August. I used TLC Cotton Plus in Mint, Kiwi, Yellow and White, on size 9 needles. The boarder is crocheted using the white. I really enjoyed doing this blanket.

UFO August was a success for me - all but one project got off the needles one way or another. :-)

6 FOs: Stashbusting Log Cabin Lapghan, Absorba, the Great Bathmat, Twisted Socks (see photo), Patons Voodoo Legwarmers, Irish Hiking Wristwarmers, Panta

I feel I must confess than the wristwarmers only needed a little bit of seaming and Panta only lacked having the two yarn ends weaved in. I'd even worn Panta in public before with the ends hanging! I have a really bad habit of avoiding doing the finishing touches, something this KAL has helped me to recognize and, hopefully, make some improvement on in the future.

1 WIP Remaining: Neapolitan socks

These socks were sacrificed so that the Twisted Socks could be finished in time. I hope to have them done next week.

Now that the slate is (nearly) clear, I can start the Christmas knitting with a clear conscious. I can't order the Esprit yarn I need for gift socks until Labor Day (end of Summer of Stash), so I'm spending the holiday weekend knitting up small stashbusting items such as Christmas ornaments.

1. Print O'The Wave Shawl from Eunny, in Kidsilk Haze, mossy green. The center is finished and the edge has grown about 1/3 around. It will be a Christmas present for my mother. No progress.

2. A Cardigan for my stepfather for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 35, the Material is Lana Grossa Pulcino (discontinued) in chocolate brown. The pieces are finished, I just have to block them, sew it together and then attach all the facings. No progress.

3. A sweater for my brother for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 12/2. The original yarn called for is Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed. I have changed it to Cool Wool Big (100% Merino), since I made him a sweater in the Tweed a couple of years ago. I'm halfway up the front. No progress.

4. A sweater for the love of my life, after Interweave The Ultimate Gift. I chose Yorkshire Tweed 4ply from Rowan in a lovely dark red instead of the cashmere. Front, back and one sleeve are done, the second sleeve is half finished. All knitted up, seamed and the collar is on the needles - another hour or so and it is finished.

5. Sunrise Circle Jacket in Alpaca Sport, 100% Alpaca. The color is a dark aubergine. This one is for me. The back and the left front/sleeve are done. All pieces finished. Needs blocking, sewing together.

6. Ruffles Scarf (Amanda Blair Brown) out of Scarf Style, in Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000 print, color 725. This one is for Cathy for Christmas. So far, about 16" are knit. 42" now.

7. Berlin Bag (original design from me). 100% Wool from Dyed in the Wool in England, in cream and tan, aran weight. This one is for me. I just need to finish the handles and then felt it and insert the lining. Oh... and publish the pattern for sale! No progress.

8. Shedir (Knitty.com Breastcancer awareness special edition) out of Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed, left over from the sweater I made for my brother two years ago. (Stashbusting!) Half done.

9. Marshall baby sweater (Rowan Babies, Kim Hargreaves) in Rowan Wool Cotton in Rose, for Sophia for her Birthday. Front and back are finished. Finished!

10. I have also started and finished another pair of socks for the Mystery Sock KAL.

And started a pair of Pomatomus socks as well as another pair of Beaudelaire Socks. Still loving the socks.

Also new on the needles is theFaroese Shawl from A Gathering of Lace in 100% Lambswool on 3mm neeldes.

While I did not get to finish as much as I wanted (new job and all) I did make progress on a few items, finished one, started and finished another and naturally, could not help myself casting on for another couple of new ones.

So, now on to the two steps forward, one step back knitalong, for more progress in the way of FO´s from today onwards!!

Instead of UFO August, it was more of a Cast-On August. I finished five projects (except for the blocking!). I also started all five this month, instead of working on things I was supposed to work on. I got involved in too many a-longs and swaps.

Final list:

1. Mohair Sweater -Technically done, but I need to frog and re-do some of it. Has not yet happened.

2. "It's a Secret #2" - Needs the missing yarn to be complete. Yarn is still missing.

3. "It's a Secret #3" - Done, except for about 15 minutes of seaming and embellishing. Oh well.

4. Mug Rug/Trivet - I actually made a Mug Rug and a Trivet from my handspun. There was more than I thought. No blocking happened this month, so these are not technically done, as they are not yet blocked. The Mug Rug really doesn't need to be blocked, but the Trivet (I guess that's what it technically is) definitely does!

5. Autumn Gloves - Not yet frogged, but I do believe that they will be Knucks. Can't be 100% sure what they're going to be until they're done!

6. Autumn Scarf - Still not touched, as the gloves need to be finished first. Oh well!

Right now, I want to finish my Hederas, which were supposed to be done last night. As it was my last night in my current locale before I head off to college again, I did not get any knitting time in. Congrats to all who have actually made some progress in their UFOs!

Hey all!

Let me tell you all how fantastic it was to see many finished projects on this blog. Congratulations to everyone!

I personally had two UFOs to finish in August, but I only finished one. I'm very happy about it though. It's the Mariah cardigan from Knitty. I have a bad pic of it (without the zipper) on my blog. It now has a zipper but I won't have my camera for another week so I can't post a better pic right now.

As for my future projects, I have many. The one I'm most eager to start is a very simple cardigan from the Fall 2004 issue of Family Circle Easy Knitting. I'm hoping my order from Knitpicks will get here today.

Hmm ok, you won't believe this, but as I was typing that last sentence, the postman rang. I got my package! :) I'll be casting on for this new project today!

I managed to get two of my three top UFO's finished in August. These were the Pi shawl, and a pair of socks in a yummy handpainted yarn. Kepler is close to completion, but not quite there. Starting back to Grad school this week threw a wrench in that one. Oh, I did rip out a horribly ugly abomination that started out as a shawl if that counts. Sometimes having the wisdom to know when its not working is as important as plugging along to the end. I hope everyone else enjoyed this as much as I have.

The deadline oriented person I am I knew I would wait until today to sew the button in the Cousin It bag.
I've been home sick all day so I then proceeded to finish my third ballband warshrag.
This one is to be sent to my swap pal. Looks like I will beat that deadline. I know I got more done than I would have this month. I did take on some last minute projects which prevented me from finishing the Ballet Camisole. That KAL ends September 30th I think so I plan to be done by then.

I feel like I can't express enough how great this KAL has been for me. I've been inspired by seeing what you all have finished, and I'm pleased with what I managed to get done. Most of my FOs needed minimal work, but I focussed and did that work and now they're off my UFO list. This may be repetitive, but here's what I finished:

What I Knit during August

I've haven't posted at all since my very first post, because it's been such a busy month. But things went pretty well, even so. I finished my pink lace scarf for the Think Pink Challenge, as well as two cotton facecloths for one of my sisters (sorry, no photos of those--I gave them to her as soon as they were done).

I also made this adorable Teddy Bear Sweater as part of my Fearless Finishing class, which met for four Saturdays at WEBS. Great class--I highly recommend it, especially the teacher, Dori Betjeman. She was wonderful!

And I've made good progress but haven't finished Mon Petit Chou. Here she is, with the front and back of the hipster almost ready to be joined.

Another UFO--the Seraphim Shawl--is about halfway done. It got put on the back burner while I worked on these projects, plus (I know, I should't have) started the Union Square Shawl/Poncho from Weekend Knitting.

This has been a very motivating KAL. I'm sorry I didn't post much, but I enjoyed reading everyone's posts and seeing all your beautiful work.

UFO August Summary and Final List

Summary: 9 finished objects, including the Margery sweater that I frogged. I am very happy with my accomplishments this month and am very glad I participated in UFO August. Thank you Jeanie for the wonderful idea and for letting me participate. I had a great time, believe it or not, and actually learned that I don't hate picking up stitches and seaming as much as I thought I did. I also learned that the best time to do this work is right after finishing the knitting, so this stuff doesn't pile up. It is time consuming, although not really hard. Another thing I want to do is knit more things in the round and/or one piece to avoid this entirely and save time.

Green Gable in Brown Sheep Lilac Haze - ~~almost at~~ just past armholes (top down): however, this yarn split/twisted in one spot, so I laddered down first one stitch (still didn't fix it) then another and finally two more, but it seems this yarn is difficult to fix with the crochet hook method. Bringing it in to my LYS to get ideas - if no hope, I can either rip it back to the bad stitches or frog it entirely. I like working with Brown Sheep cotton fleece, but the splitting is really annoying (and I used addi turbos!)

Anastasia Socks.

These were originally supposed to be Rapid River Socks, but the yarn just wasn't working with the pattern. Then I tried a sock pattern of my own design, but that wasn't working for me either. I finally made this pattern and through no fault of the pattern design the result is: meh. Full details here.

End of Month Summary

Well, I'm just reflecting on my UFO August progress and I'm overall quite pleased.
Finished: Alpaca Thrummed Mittens, Matilda Jane cardigan, Cabled bedsocks, the felted neckpiece.
I made good progress on Pomatomous socks, but decided not to rush to finish them because I still love the pattern and don't feel pressured to finish them. If I did I'd only start a new pair of socks anyway.
I've decided to frog the barely begun Twisted Float jacket because I don't enjoy the stitch pattern. It's beautiful and heck, I'm as yet undecided whether to stash or destash the Malabrigo. I will also frog the Knitpicks Sock Garden Jaywalkers because the one half a sock is too small and I can't get it over my ankle. I have some striping sock yarn that I may do this pattern in later. The Silk Corset I decided not to work on because it is so body-conscious and I'm losing weight. It can wait. This leaves the Janet Shawl Shrug and I'm not feeling the passion for her. She's really more of a spring/summer item and I'll probably just leave her for next year.

This means, of course, to cast on! DH's fair isle vest in Merino Style, a nice, normal DK weight. And. The. Insane. Dale. Sweater. Knit. On. Size. Two. Needles!

Glutton for punishment! And it starts with 485 sts!!! But, on the fourth row decreases down to more like 350, which is way more manageable.

Only One...

I can't believe August is nearly over and I only got to one of my UFOs.

Still, I'm thrilled that I was finally able to finish Scoop du Jour!

There was no good reason for it being put off for so long. It's an easy pattern, it's a nice sweater. I love the juicy raspberry color of the Reynolds Saucy. It fits perfectly.

Not only did I finally knit the button and neck bands, I even made little fabric covered buttons.

I do recommend the pattern. You can't really see the terrific scoop neckline in my photo, but it's quite fetching. It's a "quick" knit, too. Even with having to reknit the fronts (because I picked up the wrong needles), the actual amount of time spent on this project was very small. One could easily knock it out in a week. You know, if you don't keep putting it away for months at a time.

This KAL was a great idea, it's been very helpful in making me a little more mindful of the need to finish the things I start. So, I may go ahead and have my own little UFO September.

My One and Only August UFO

My goal was to finish this wrap for UFO August - hey.... it's only one UFO - but it's a winner. I am absolutely in love with it.

Pattern: Wrap Yourself in Nature, from Inspired Cables, Fiona Ellis

Yarn: 3-ply Prime Alpaca, Musk, approximately 1600 yards

Size 6 needles60" x 17"

Modifications to pattern: This is meant to be knit in two pieces and seamed together in a "V." I knit it straight, in one piece, to the same length as my favorite pashmina.

This Prime Alpaca is the SOFTEST yarn... and very warm. I enjoyed every minute of knitting this yarn and pattern. The cables were fun, and I LOVE the triangled edging.

Now that I've finished it.... I'm kind of cheating, I've frogged a previous UFO (Spring Fling), but used the same yarn to cast on for Prosperous Plum. So, maybe if I'm using UFO yarn, it's not really cheating?

Works for me.

9) Plain Socks on 2 Circs - I don’t care if I finish these. I might actually end up ripping them out as well. I’m just feeling the yarn at this point in time. It doesn’t want to be turned into anything right now. RIIIIIIIIIIP!!
10) River Rapids socks - This is what the plain socks on 2 circs turned into.. I'm 3/4 done with the pair, and I hope to have this finished by Thursday, because it counts in 2 other KALs, as well. ;)

Fertig, Done, Finite, Fini.....

Finally completed Tilia - was up until about 5 am finishing it. When I get that close on a Saturday night, what's a knitter to do? Missed church this a.m. though. Not good. I also finished the moebius cowl scarf with another yarn, and blocked a large square of pink knitting that was going to be Madison's baby blanket in 2000 and will not be a poncho in '06 for first grade, LOL:). Hey, never let it be said I waste anything:)
Blocked the sweater, scarf and "poncho" this morning. Here are some pics (I hope they come up!).

I finished the Spiral Rib Bag just in time to use at my Aunt and Uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. When I arrived home from work at 4:10 I started knitting and at 6:45 was done. It took me 15 minutes to get ready and we hopped in the car and arrived fashionably late (10 minutes). Also finished is another Ballband. These make three done. And if I sew on the button I found for the Cousin It Bag I'll be at four FO's. The end of August deadline will motivate me.

These are the lace pillowcase panels. They're not yet blocked, much less sewn in, but it was the lace that was kicking my butt, and thanks to having converted the instructions into a chart, I fought that demon and won, and feel very good about it. Looking forward to sewing them up, but I have to go buy the pillowcases first, and that may take a while.

Here's my final tally for the month, counting frogged projects as "done," in the sense of having been dealt with as needed (same goes for the lace panels, in my mind). That leaves only the afghan still on the needles, but that was unrealistic from the start. I'm enjoying having it on the needles on a semi-permanent basis, for mindless therapy knitting when needed.

I have come to admit defeat on the Sea Silk. There is no way it will be enough yarn. Sob. Do I unravel it right now while disgusted with it and seek another pattern? Do I turn it into a TOAD (trashed object abandoned in disgust)*? Something in the middle? Sigh.

It's August 25, and I do not have any FOs! I have finished some dishcloths and other small gifts that were not on my list, but I haven't done well with all my UFOs. I hope to finish one--I've picked up my bombshell t-shirt and am almost finished with the edging.

I need to join One Step Forward--even with a yarn diet, I have not done well with my UFOs.

Just wanted to let y'all know - am on the second sleeve of the Elsebeth Lavold's Tilia:
As with most "picture phones," the lighting doesn't do the color justice - there's more yellow in this green making it much brighter, but you get the idea. It looks like this one will fit - who knew?
My goal - finish it by the weekend to have for the fall.

I have managed to wipe three things of my UFO list today but not all are finished.
Firstly, I finished the Cherry Tree Hill Supersocks.

Pattern: Cherry Tree Hill Ribbed Supersock
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Northern Lights
Needles: Brittany Birch 2.75mm dpn's
Modification: None

I love these socks and can't wait to find a pattern for the other skein I have.

Secondly, I gave up on the bag, I just couldn't cope with all that stocking stith. I've decided to frog it and use the yarn to make socks.

Thirdly, I finished the two halves of the scarf and when I grafted them together one of the sides was the wron way round - my fault should have left it until morning when I would have been more alert. This is on temporary hold until I can be patient enough to fix.

I have cast on the second sock of my last UFO so fingers crossed it will be finished by next week. I wasn't going to cast on any new projects until Sept but as I had been so good I cast on Rosalind last night.

Yeah! The pieces are done. I finished up two WIPs before finally sitting done with this sweater and making some progress. For the past 3 days it has been nothing but knitting this baby. I've been working on the top half of the front and back section by section. I was a bit of a panic when I saw I just had 2 balls of yarn left. Yikes. I ripped out the swatches and got them all set as my emergency supply. It was a good thing I did. The last inch or so on the back is the swatch yarn.
I am so happy to be getting this sweater done. Today will be spent seaming and finishing the neck band. Oh and the yarn is Schoeller Stahl Big in Navy. Not very soft at the moment. I'm hoping washing will soften it up.
The socks I've been ignoring will be up next. I've ripped and started and ripped again since the beginning of August. I've finally decided on a pattern and the current number of stitches for a snug fit.

Last weekend I finished Samus, except for the zipper. I'll have to find one that I like & put it in, soon.

Then, I finished Cables & Lace this last Monday.

Add these FOs to the finished (& already gifted) Trellis & I have 3 done!! I never thought I'd get this much done in so little time.

This week I've been working on Icarus. I am about half way through chart 2 (of 4). Its at the point where I feel like it takes forever to get through 1 row, but since I've started the second lace pattern, it is still holding my interest, but I'm dying to start something new!!

Ahhh, snuggly, sheepy, warm and cushy socks. These were quick in the making, but were after all, a UFO at the beginning of August.

I forgot about this UFO, but here is the rest of my DH's holiday '05 gift, thrummed Misti alpaca mittens with a half-hitch knot cable (pattern from Elsebeth Lavold). He did receive the matching hat in time.

Nearing the Finish Line!

Well, we have just one week left of UFO August and I have to say that I'm EXTREMELY proud of each and every one of you (us) who joined whether you finished any UFO's or not. Even for those of you who joined but then got too busy to post your UFO list, I'm proud of y'all too because you had GOOD INTENTIONS! And in my book, good intentions count!

So. I have a couple of things I want to mention as things are winding down.

First, don't forget that there will be a drawing at the end of August for all who joined UFO August.
Second, I think we should do UFO August again next year -- what do y'all think?
Third, until next year y'all can join my Two Steps Forward One Step Back Knit Along where the goal is to finish two projects (UFO's) for every one project started. I started this little "rule of thumb" quite a while ago and it really does help (when I feel motivated to get a few UFO's cranked out).
And finally, on the last day of UFO August, I propose we all compile and post lists of all the projects we WANT to make this fall and winter. I already have my "WIM" (works in mind) list prepared but will wait 'till the last day of August to post it.

Keep up the good work on your UFO's -- you still have a whole week left!

Another UFO August Dropout :(

Hi everyone - this is my first post, and probably also my last on this blog. I had such good intentions when I signed up for UFO August, and I just haven't even made it as far as posting my UFO list. But, I have a good excuse! I am moving to Florida on Sept. 1st and have been busy packing. I have been doing some knitting, but the items I've been knitting have technically been WIP's and not UFO's, so I didn't feel it was right to indicate otherwise. I have finished a pair of socks for my mom (my first pair of socks) and two Mason Dixon washrags this month, and am furiously trying to finish a pair of Jaywalker socks for my sister-in-law's birthday on the 26th - I'm still on the first sock, so I don't think I'll make that deadline. I'm aiming to get them done before I move so I can present them to her in person. I also have been working on a Dinosaur from Family Circle Easy toys - this is a big UFO from almost a year ago. It was intended for my ex-boyfriend's nephew, but since he's now an ex, I do not have an intended recipient at the moment. But I did work on it a few nights ago and am now up to his head. But the packing for the move really does slow the knitting down.

I applaud everyone else for their UFO August accomplishments and continued success. Good luck for the remainder of the month!

UFO Updates

Well.....I've hit several obstacles that have nearly derailed me from staying on track with UFO August. I was SO tempted to cast on for something new today after I hit my second UFO brick wall. What are the problems that nearly got me off course with my vow to ONLY work on UFO's for the month of August? Well first, last night, after working on 4 1/2 repeats of section 4 of Clapotis (that's 56 rows for those of you who haven't knit Clapotis before) I noticed that I had done the entire section WRONG. How? Because I just skimmed the directions and assumed that section 4 was the same as the previous sections and I only dropped one stitch on each row 8 instead of dropping TWO as directed. I couldn't believe my eyes when I finally decided to READ the directions! After realizing my mistake, I posted an S.O.S. on the Clapotis support group (Yahoo group) asking if there was ANYTHING that could be done short of frogging 56 rows back to the beginning of section 4. It appears that several other Clapotis'ers have done the exact same thing I did which immediately made me feel somewhat better, but only one had an alternate "fix". It dealt with clipping stitches (something I'd already entertained) and tying the ends back together, but after a little thought I decided that the best thing to do is just to frog.
Grrrrr.....

So while I was waiting for someone to respond to my S.O.S, I pulled out another UFO. This time it was the cute sweater from Easy Knitting magazine. I started this sweater so long ago and I did such a lousy job of the armhole decreases that I decided to frog back to the beginning of the armholes and reknit them. No problem -- I knit away on this sweater for an hour or two and had just completed the back when I looked at how much yarn I had left to complete the front, the cowl neck, and two sleeves. Since the back had used nearly an entire skein of yarn, and since I only had two skeins left (to complete said front, cowl, and two sleeves) I decided I may not make it. And naturally, this is a discontinued color (but of course!). So. I'm going to TRY to see if I can find ANY more yarn in this color before I cast on for the front.

It was at this time that I seriously considered just casting on for a simple pair of socks since the UFO's were being so uncooperative. But I dug my heels in and said no. I went BACK to the UFO pile and grabbed yet another UFO to work on. This time I chose my Easy Street Sweater and was able to finish the back in less than an hour. I've already cast on for the front and so far have not run into any "snags".

Please send positive UFO vibes my way.

I have made progress on the baby blanket ... last night I put together 2 of the 5 rows of squares, instead of sewing the peices together I am crocheting them. I am using white so each square is outlined in white which will tie the boarder in very nicely ... I don't have a picture right now though, I will try and get one posted later today. Well it took me 3 tries but I got it uploaded ...

As for the dd's sweater i did more on the left side, but I think I made the back piece (arm hole section) too small so I am not sure how I am going to proceed .... any thoughts on this would be helpful.

I have finished the second Unst sock and am really pleased with them. The lace is really stretchy and they are comfy.

Pattern: Unst from Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush
Yarn: Opal Rodeo Cotton Shade 1174
Needles: Brittany Birch 2.25mm
Modifications: 2x2 rib instead of lace rib.

I have already cast on the second ribbed sock and have completed the leg, I should have finished the heel by tomorrow so hopefully they will be another fo by the middle of the week.

1. Print O'The Wave Shawl from Eunny, in Kidsilk Haze, mossy green. The center is finished and the edge has grown about 1/3 around. It will be a Christmas present for my mother. No progress.

2. A Cardigan for my stepfather for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 35, the Material is Lana Grossa Pulcino (discontinued) in chocolate brown. The pieces are finished, I just have to block them, sew it together and then attach all the facings. No progress.

3. A sweater for my brother for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 12/2. The original yarn called for is Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed. I have changed it to Cool Wool Big (100% Merino), since I made him a sweater in the Tweed a couple of years ago. I'm halfway up the front. No progress.

4. A sweater for the love of my life, after Interweave The Ultimate Gift. I chose Yorkshire Tweed 4ply from Rowan in a lovely dark red instead of the cashmere. Front, back and one sleeve are done, the second sleeve is half finished. Next up!

5. Sunrise Circle Jacket in Alpaca Sport, 100% Alpaca. The color is a dark aubergine. This one is for me. The back and the left front/sleeve are done. All pieces finished. Needs blocking, sewing together.

6. Ruffles Scarf (Amanda Blair Brown) out of Scarf Style, in Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000 print, color 725. This one is for Cathy for Christmas. So far, about 16" are knit. 35" now.

7. Berlin Bag (original design from me). 100% Wool from Dyed in the Wool in England, in cream and tan, aran weight. This one is for me. I just need to finish the handles and then felt it and insert the lining. Oh... and publish the pattern for sale! No progress.

8. Shedir (Knitty.com Breastcancer awareness special edition) out of Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed, left over from the sweater I made for my brother two years ago. (Stashbusting!) A few rows more.

9. Marshall baby sweater (Rowan Babies, Kim Hargreaves) in Rowan Wool Cotton in Rose, for Sophia for her Birthday. Front and back are finished. Finished!

I have also started and finished another pair of socks for the Mystery Sock KAL and started a pair of Pomatomus socks. Go figure, socks just draw me at the moment.

I finished the ballband warshrag a couple days ago and it has already seen a lot of use in my kitchen. I immediately started a second for my Mason Dixon Swapcloth pal. That is now my top priority UFO. The Ballet Camisole comes next. Last weekend I went to Stitches Midwest and now have two more future UFOs. You can read about it here. I got materials to make a beaded knit belt and a curtain for my kitchen. Next weekI start teaching again. I think I am in trouble.

Another Christmas gift - Jaeger Natural Fleece vest, from JB 36 (not 38 as I originally said - I just noticed.) I probably wouldn't use this yarn again as it has a tendency to break when you sew with it, if you have a long piece of yarn that keeps getting pulled through when sewing. But I think it turned out cute.

It was picked out by my husband's aunt as her gift, as I asked her and my mother in law to pick out their gifts from my knitting books this year! She doesn't spend much time online anymore now that she has three young grandchildren that she watches a lot of days, so I don't have to worry about her seeing her present early. My mother in law's vest (which I haven't started yet) will have to be a mystery to the "blogosphere" though as she spends a lot of time online.

Integrity or Three FOs

It struck me as I posted on my blog earlier today that one of the wonderful things about UFO August is that it makes me have integrity in my knitting. This is something I think about with the writing that I do...if I have a daily practice of writing, I can improve and give my all to my craft. In the same way, if I finish what I start in my crafting, I gain a level of personal integrity that makes me feel better about myself.

Anyway. There are three FO's from my list:

1. Twitterpated, the project for my One Skein Secret Pal.
2. Baby Bib O'Love (found it this morning finally!)
3. Heartbreakingly Cute Kimono.

5. Keith's Socks - and again I have completed one of these and have to cast on the second. These are for my stepdad and they will be cast on after the completion of UFO 3 and 4.
6. Wavy Razor Shell scarf - This scarf is now approx 1/2completed.

The Booga bag is now felted and I am really pleased with it.

I finished the socks:

And I learned a big lesson. Some projects are hopeless, even when you're *really* close to finishing them, and it's better to just retrieve the yarn. Despite the many years I've been knitting, this is the first time I've really faced this truth. I feel that I have grown. Also, I'm totally agonized over the hours of work I wasted on a lost cause. AARRGGHH!

I just found out about this KAL and am happy to join. I can't seem to stop casting on. I just cast on for a Dream Swatch last night, even though I have plenty OTN. I'm ready to attack my casting on compulsion!

The Big Sack Sweater is a challenge, so much stockinette it gets boring after a while. I'm working on the front with the cable right now, so it's not too bad. but then there's the sleeves.

I really wanted to get things done. I really wanted to finish those nagging projects that have been hanging around for months (years, in a couple of cases). But I couldn't find the yarn that I need to finish item #2 on my list. It only needs about 30 minutes of finishing work, but I can't find the yarn. If it were just seams, I'd find another yarn and deal, but it's embellishments, and it has to match the other one. And then I got sock yarn in. And joined a granny square swap. And finally put together my carders, and realized that making rolags and spinning from them is the easiest thing ever. So it's not like I have nothing finished. I just recently started most of the things that I've finished.

Updated list:

1. Mohair Sweater -Technically done, but I need to frog and re-do some of it when I get it back on Monday.
2. "It's a Secret #2" - Needs the missing yarn to be complete.
3. "It's a Secret #3" - I have the first half about done (I need to do about 5 minutes of seaming, why is that final touch always the hardest to do?) and the second half not yet begun.
4. Mug Rug/Potholder - I actually made a Mug Rug and a Potholder from my handspun. There was more than I thought. Needs to be blocked, and then this will be the first actually complete knitted project for UFO August! I'm just waiting to finish a couple of other things as I like to do a lot of washing at once.
5. Autumn Gloves - Not yet frogged, haven't found a good pattern yet. I may make Knucks, actually, as that seems like a good pattern!
6. Autumn Scarf - Still not touched, as the gloves need to be finished first. Oh well!

I don't believe that the people who will be recieving the It's a Secret gifts read this, so I'll post a picture for you:

Yup, Pocket Creatures. I'm making a set of two of each. The red one is #1, and it's 100% done. The purple one is #2, and I can't find the orange yarn for the hair to finish the second one. The blue one is #3, and it needs seaming on it's bottom. I need to cast on for it's mate too.

I made a mistake and edited my old post (saving the changes) rather than copying and pasting.

Here's my progress: no new finished objects yet but I updated #12 (yellow/orange Rowan Cork garter ridge sweater) and #14 (Noro Silk Garden V neck). I have all the pieces knitted for both now - here's the new pics.

This one I think will turn out fine, as now I bought the brown suede cording to lace through the front eyelets. I haven't grafted together garter stitch before, so I'll have to re-view Leslye Solomon's Sweater Finishing DVD first.

This one looks crazy right now, because of the odd construction (more grafting garter stitch - can you tell that a year ago when I started these projects I liked garter stitch?!) but it should be OK eventually. I didn't bind off the stitches for each piece b/c I thought the grafting would be easier off needles than trying to do it with two bound off pieces.

Here's what it currently looks like (scary and in dire need of blocking!)

Can I just say that I hate when they obviously use twice as many skeins to pull out just the colors that they like for the model sweater? (Or maybe, their skeins didn't have the same colors I did in my dyelot of that shade.) Anyway, all the pieces are knitted.

I hope to get a lot done today as Jim is currently playing golf at his usual Saturday morning tee time and we don't have anything planned until dinner at Morton's tonight. Ahhh - unscheduled time!

That's something I've learned in the short time since I joined this blog-along! That moebius scarf is no more. Didn't turn out quite right and I don't know about the rest of us, but if I'm going to spend money on nice yarn, it's going to turn out right, or it will be something else:)

I've finished my rustic loomed gauntlets. The pattern is my own. I used brown sheep worsted in coffee bean and some pink ribbon on a blue knifty knitter. The yarn had been hanging around in my stash for a long time before I was struck with the idea of gauntlets/armwarmers. They'd been unfinished since it's like over 100 degrees here! Glad to have them completed! Right now I'm at the neckline of Tempting II and hope to finish this week. I'm looking forward to getting these nagging UFO's done!

Peer pressure - I won't cave.

I remember in high school, I got wind of a "kidnap breakfast" - and I was determined NOT to be kidnapped with totally bad hair and no zit coverage. I don't remember how I found out, but I knew they were coming to "surprise me" the next morning, along with a bunch of other suckers, and take us to breakfast.... so I put on my best PJ's and set my alarm for a half hour ahead, so I could still be "asleep and surprised" when they barged into my bedroom, but with not-so-wild hair and not so many zits.

Well, my parents found out that I was clued in, and .... well, let's just say, I will never get the picture out of my head - of my Dad crawling into my bedroom in the middle of the night, in his chonies, to unplug my alarm clock. Ew.

Didn't work - I plugged it back in the moment he crawled out. I'm nothing if not determined... when it's important. And the peer pressure was too much - I could handle being dragged out of bed and to breakfast in my PJ's - but could not handle it with major bad hair and uncovered zits.

So, the peer pressure of boring you readers to death with my blog, while I'm STILL working on my "First Class Shawl" (aka, Wrap Yourself in Nature, Fiona Ellis) - well, it's not going to work. Sorry. I'm not gonna weanie out. This shawl deserves to be all it can be... the full 50-60" I envision... And, since it's only about 36" right now, be prepared to look at it a while longer.

Sorry - I'm not gonna cave.

I'll try to photograph it in different locales - how 'bout that? Views of the cables from the left one day... .the right another day. Maybe upside down if that'll keep you reading.

And don't even think about trying to sneak into the house on your hands and knees in your chonies to steal it some night.... I'm wise to that trick. And, I'm sleeping with my camera.

Geez - the month is half over, and I'm only now posting my list!

Lotus Blossom Tank: I started this for the LBT KAL. So far, I have completed 2 1/2 rounds of the lace. I am using KnitPicks Shine Sport in Apricot. The color is a little bright than I would like, but I love the feel and drape.
Shetland Tea Shawl: This is my first real lace project, from A Gathering of Lace. I love the photos of this, and can’t wait to get it to the point where I can “see” the pattern. This is being done in KnitPicks Alpaca Cloud in a heathered pink. I have already learned a lot about lace knitting with this project, and it is not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be.
Waterfall Rib Socks: I started this pair of socks quite some time ago, and got sidetracked (as usual). Now the second sock is larger than the first because my gauge changed. You know how they always say that stressful knitting will change your gauge? Well, they are right. Most of the first sock was knitted sitting in court waiting my turn to pry my security deposit out of my former landlord’s greedy tight fists! The stitch pattern is from Sensational Knitted Socks, with the Eye of the Partridge heel.
Cascade Fixation Socks: I am working on the second pair. They knit up very quickly, but I just haven’t been working on these. They are ht pink varigated with hot pink heels and toes. I am about 3/4 of the way finished with the first one. I still have two other colorways for this KAL. This is a cool sock, because there isn’t really a pattern. I am just knitting along until it looks/feels/fits “right”. I bet the second one doesn’t match very well, LOL!
Trekking Red White & Blue Socks: I started these socks for the Trek Along With Me KAL. Obviously, I have not been trekking, ergo, one sock is 1/2 finished. This KAL ends Labor Day, so I had better get crackin’! The pattern for this sock is also in the Sensational Knitted Socks book. I just love the chevron and the way it is showing off the colorway.

It doesn't look like much, but I also have lots of little projects going on at the same time - hats, booties, sweaters, burial items, bereavement items, etc for The Preemie Project and LucyBug. I don't count them as UFO's, since they are so quick to finish up. They take up the bulk of my knitting time, though, so I don't get as much work done on my UFOs as I would like.

Weekend Progress - Three Down, Seventeen to Go (ha!)

Finally! Some weekend progress (all on Sunday, believe it or not - I got nothing done the rest of the weekend.)

First item - Linen Print Pullover. This one came out looking more sheer in the photo than I thought it would be, so you can see my cami right through it in the pic below so I thought I would also show it on a hanger. Not crazy about this one.

Item #2 - Fetching. Picked up the thumbs and I love it! This was the first time I tried fingerless gloves and it wasn't that hard. I even used the Magic Loop method for the thumbs and it was very do-able.

#11 from my list - sew strap onto felted purse - Done!

And a progress pic from #3 - Louisa Harding tank. I did one strap/armhole pickup and it came out pretty well! Not hard, just tedious and took a long time, so I see why I've been putting it off.

As others have said, it sure does feel good to knock some of these projects out and cross them off the list! I hope to have a lot more progress this week to show everyone.

I spent a lovely week at the beach with my sister and her kids and various drop-in guests. In between--oh wait, nothing but hanging by the water--I finished the bulk of my One Skein Pal project--a bag that just needs to be lined and given handles, and I finished the Baby Kimono, other than adding the ribbon ties. I've got the Cascade Fixation ankle sock #2 moving along--I'm working on the gusset now. I've also sewn my KSKS bag and a few accessories for it. I just have to write up a pattern and pop that baby in the mail. Oh, yes, I also decided for sure to frog the Stripes are Stars v-neck sweater. Pictures after I get the house back in order!

My daughter Carolyn came home today and the Piece O Cherry Pie and Blueberry pie where supposed to be for her birthday. Beign the deadline oriented person I am I sat down and finished them. I don't know why I have such a hard time finishing things because they really come to life as you finish them. I am really happy with the way they turned out as you can see here.

My next project? A planned project that I forgot to add to my list: Earthy Computer Mousepad Wrist Pillow. I'm actually going to be making two, so I can use them for the keyboard. I've finally nailed down the cause of my wrist fatigue...it's typing on the keyboard without a wrist rest, duh!!! I can't believe I didn't think of it before.
This will also count as stash-busting, I'm using some Bernat kitchen cotton I received from a friend a long time ago. It was originally intended for chemo caps (my knit group makes them) but I feel it's just too thick for a cap.

The short row shaping will be great practice, as I have toe-up socks on my UFO list.

Okay so I managed to finish one WIP! It was to be a skirt for the darling daughter but once I got it to a good length I realized that it was going to be to big for the girlie's waist. So a wrap it became. It is made from Crystal Palace Poof (really soft!)

On to the list of yet to finish...
This is The adirondack pullover I do not see myself finishing with this this month but the no starting new stuff rule is going to help me make a dent in this sweater. I have been promising him a sweater for some time now so I do believe it is time to get a move on. (I have finally joined it for knitting in the round so I really need an updated pic.

This will be a baby blanket once I have finished spinning the cotton for it. Right now I have 200yrds spun so I am a long way from being finished. But I do need to finish since the baby will be here in December. Ahh the pressure that I put on myself with this one.

This is Kiri which will be lovly if I ever finish it. but it is last on the list for right now because of the baby blanket and the pullover that need to be finished. So it is here on the list but may not see much action.

I finally finished my first sock ever! Now I want more than anything to cast on for its mate but I promised myself I'd finish the other items first. Otherwise I can see me finishing this pair, and then starting the new handdyed sockyarn that just arrived... and never finishing my other projects at all.

Next on my list: Irish Hiking Scarf and Ballband Dishcloths.

Not much, but I'm feeling more virtuous.

I stayed up way, way too late last night, but I do have much better progress to show. I have Trellis blocking, finished the knitting (except for edges which the pattern says to knit after blocking) on Samus. Until Samus dries, I am working on Cables & Lace or Icarus, depending on what I feel like working on. In the picture, mostly you can see Samus. The burgundy is Cables & Lace & the evergreen is Icarus. As you can see I most close to finishing Cables & Lace, so I will probably try to keep pushing ahead.

A few down, a bunch to go! :) Here's an update on my list:

1) Jaywalkers socks - I love this pattern. But I only love it for the first sock. Even if I cast on for the second sock, I don’t love it. Even if I’m knitting it in STR in a gorgeous colorway, I hate the 2nd sock. This is my main project. I’m actually about an inch away from starting the heel flap, so hopefully… hopefully. DONE!

2) To Bobble or Not To Bobble - I’m so tired of working on this. So tired of it, that I haven’t worked on it. I’m going to rip it out. Maybe I’ll use the yarn for face cloths.
3) Ombre Afghan from Last Minute Knitted Gifts - August marks the 1 year anniversary of when I started that damn thing. I know it’s too hot to work on it, but with August being Neutrals month for Project Spectrum, I really hope to make a huge dent, if not finish the rest of this thing. This project is a gift for my fiancee (I was worried about the Sweater curse, since I started it before we were engaged. I've missed Christmas and his birthday, and I'm hoping to have it for him this Christmas. *lol*
4) Co-Worker Baby Afghan - It’s a Log cabin design courtesy of MDK. I really need to get re-started on this thing. I think I’m using too big needles, and I want to restart it. I have a deadline of the end of October (assuming she delivers on time), but I'd love to finish it before that.
5) Ribby Cardi - Loving this pattern. I really want to finish it so I have something spiffy to wear. I'm about 6 inches into the back piece.
6) Tempting II - Loving this pattern as well, and I also want to finish it so I can wear it already. I think I'm 7 inches into it.
7) Lady Eleanor - I love working on this when I have time, but I’ve been distracted by other things. This is what happen when you have startitis. I've completed 9 or 10 tiers so far.
8) Mystery Stole 2006 - I don’t know that I’ll finish this in August, but I really want to work on it more than I have lately. I'm halfway through the first run of Clue #2
9) Plain Socks on 2 Circs - I don’t care if I finish these. I might actually end up ripping them out as well. I’m just feeling the yarn at this point in time. It doesn’t want to be turned into anything right now. RIIIIIIIIIIP!!

I've been working away...Much like others I've read, not starting new projects is hard, but I've risen to the challenge, so far.

I've finished Trellis, I just need to buy buttons & block. Hopefully, this will happen this weekend. This is for a baby shower gift that will be given on August 19th, so I'd better finish this weekend! :)

I'm almost done with the knitting on Samus.

Though I'm working on Cables & Lace, I just don't feel like I'm getting anywhere, but reading about the everyone's progress is really keeping me on track. Thanks!!

Hello, I'm Bettina and I live in southern Spain. After reading some of the previous posts, I realise that having this many UFO's is actually not so unusual.

Recently I cleaned out my knitting chest and wow, lots of unfinished stuff.

So, here is the list:

1. Print O'The Wave Shawl from Eunny, in Kidsilk Haze, mossy green. The center is finished and the edge has grown about 1/3 around. It will be a Christmas present for my mother.

2. A Cardigan for my stepfather for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 35, the Material is Lana Grossa Pulcino (discontinued) in chocolate brown. The pieces are finished, I just have to block them, sew it together and then attach all the facings.

3. A sweater for my brother for Christmas, Filati Magazine Special Men, Model number 12/2. The original yarn called for is Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed. I have changed it to Cool Wool Big (100% Merino), since I made him a sweater in the Tweed a couple of years ago. I'm halfway up the front.

4. A sweater for the love of my life, after Interweave The Ultimate Gift. I chose Yorkshire Tweed 4ply from Rowan in a lovely dark red instead of the cashmere. Front, back and one sleeve are done, the second sleeve is half finished.

5. Sunrise Circle Jacket in Alpaca Sport, 100% Alpaca. The color is a dark aubergine. This one is for me. The back and the left front/sleeve are done.

6. Ruffles Scarf (Amanda Blair Brown) out of Scarf Style, in Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000 print, color 725. This one is for Cathy for Christmas. So far, about 16" are knit.

7. Berlin Bag (original design from me). 100% Wool from Dyed in the Wool in England, in cream and tan, aran weight. This one is for me. I just need to finish the handles and then felt it and insert the lining. Oh... and publish the pattern for sale!

8. Shedir (Knitty.com Breastcancer awareness special edition) out of Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed, left over from the sweater I made for my brother two years ago. (Stashbusting!)

9. Marshall baby sweater (Rowan Babies, Kim Hargreaves) in Rowan Wool Cotton in Rose, for Sophia for her Birthday. Front and back are finished.

Just finished, before posting this were:

A pair of socks (Baudelaire) and a shawl for my grandmother in a burgundy cashmere yarn, it just needs blocking.

The priorities are not according to the list, I tend to knit things depending on the weather at the moment. Smaller projects will be worked on on very hot days, and the bigger pieces when it is a little cooler.

I'm sure before the month is over, I'll start some more things, since I've joined a few sock knitalongs. I've also swatched some 100% lambswool yarn from Dyed in the Wool for the Deep V Argyle Vest from Eunny. And then there is that lovely 50% Merino/50% Tussah Silk Yarn from Lana Grossa just waiting to be cast on for a top down sweater for me. It's a lovely golden brown color.

Well....I know I won't run out of things to do....

I was determined NOT to post until I had at least one FO to show and I FINALLY do!

Now on to the next UFO.... not sure which one I'll tackle. Knitting time is rare these days. I'm down one employee and have decided not to replace her, so I'm doing my job plus hers... It's not bad, just cuts in on the knitting time a bit.

I don 't have as many UFO's as i thought but nonetheless I am determined to get them all finished by the end of August.

My List

Booga Bag - i have pretty much completed the bag part and just have 6' of i-cord to knit, then the felting.
Emma bag - i have sort of fallen out of love with this bag, but am sure once it is finished it it will return. I have completed one side and about 1/4 of the other side. It uses Opal sock yarn on 2.75mm needles and is garter stitch, so can be a bit boring after a while.
Unst socks - i completed the first of these last night and should complete the second pretty soon as they were a joy to knit.
Cherry Tree Hill Ribbed socks - once again I have one of the socks completed but joined the KOTR kal and started Unst. Once Unst is completed i will cast on the second of these.
Keith's Socks - and again I have completed one of these and have to cast on the second. These are for my stepdad and they will be cast on after the completion of UFO 3 and 4.
Wavy Razor Shell scarf - This scarf is approc 1/3 of the way through and uses a very easy 2 row lace pattern.

It kinda looks worse written down than it does in my knitting bag, but the projects are all pretty small and three of them are socks. I am NOT going to cast on anything else now until these are completed.

Thinking Maybe She Won't Finish Anything

So, I've been really good about working on my projects. I've knit exclusively on my clapotis, except for a long car ride when I thought my sock would be a bit easier to manage. Here's my progress so far, as of a couple days ago.

It still has a ways to go, and I'm going to have to buy another skein of yarn to finish it. UGH!

So yeah, I don't know if I'll complete anything this month. I'm thinking about rotating all my UFO's that way I can get a break from clappy... But at least I haven't started anything new. And I've been REALLY REALLY tempted.

Hope everyone else is making a bit more progress than I am :)

Can't Commit!

Although I made quite a bit of progress on my remaining UFOs, I am having a lot of trouble focusing on any one project. Nothing is getting closed to finish. I flit back and forth from one thing to the next over the course of the day. Sometimes I feel like I am pulling teeth--start on one side but when it hurts too much, switch to the other side of the jaw and try pulling there instead....

At least I'm not casting on anything new!

How 'bout the rest of you? Things going well? Having any struggles?

Hi everybody. What a great idea for a knit along! I've got three lace projects I want to finish this month, and I'm not allowing myself to start any other projects until these are done. In this picture they are the pink lace scarf (which is for the Think Pink Challenge), Mon Petit Chou (in black Cascade Fixation), and Miriam Felton's Seraphim Shawl, using two strands of Cinnabar laceweight wool from handpaintedyarn.com. The other project in the picture is finally done--it's the Kimono Shawl from Folk Shawls, made with Knit Picks Shadow in Lost Lake. I finished that one last week, in time for the recipient's August 9 birthday. (Pics on my blog, if you're interested).

Of these three projects, Mon Petit Chou and the pink scarf are at the top of the list. I'm working on both; MPC is complicated and therefore not a "take along" project, but the pink scarf I can work on anywhere. The Seraphim Shawl is third on my list, mainly because I won't use it until the weather gets cooler.

I'm glad to have an incentive to stop dragging my heels on these, and to stop distracting myself by starting other things!

I finished my first sweater.

This isn't the first sweater I've ever knit. But it is the first one I've designed. It's got a few design issues, but overall I'm really happy with my first try. There's something to be said for beginner's luck. Full details are here.

Here's hoping that's what I can say. I went through my stash (such as it is, LOL) and did an inventory of UFOs. I was surprised to see it consists of only (!) ten projects, two of which are so near completion, it's ridiculous! So here goes in order of percent completed (pics to follow):
1) (This is really a repair - don't know if it counts as a UFO, but can't wear it 'til I fix it!) Fix dropped stitch on back of var. red cotton top (Melissa Leapman, Hot Knits) DONE:)
2) Put fringe on scarf DONE:)
3)Frog back to armhole shaping and complete baby cardigan for Ruby
4)Finish sleeves and neck band for Dan's oversized green pullover
5)Complete sleeves, construction and finishing on green Lavold pullover
6)Finish second sock of various pink/purple/greens
7)Tilt cardigan from knitty.com
8)Mosaic cardigan/jacket from Knitter's.
9)Second big grey kneesock.
10)Moebius Cowl Scarf by Cat Bordhi (Knitty Gritty) recently added (shame on me!)FROGGED:)
My "carrot" to finish these is I really want to do the following:
